Alaska Plane Crash, Flock Surveillance Probe, ICE Officer Freed

Four people. Gone in an instant. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. Yesterday at about one eighteen in the afternoon, a small Piper aircraft took off from Merrill Field in Anchorage, headed for the coastal town of Seldovia. It never arrived. The plane went down in shallow water in the Seldovia Slough. All four adults on board were killed. Troopers couldn't reach the wreckage right away. The plane sat submerged in about fifteen feet of water. They had to wait for the tide. Around six thirty in the evening, they recovered the bodies. The NTSB is investigating. This comes one week after another Alaska crash killed all eight people aboard a charter plane trying to land in heavy fog. Two crashes. Twelve lives. Eight days. James asks the question we quietly avoid. What is your life? A mist, he says. It appears for a little while and then vanishes. That isn't morbid. It's honest. Senator Josh Hawley is opening a formal investigation into Flock Safety, the company behind the license plate reader cameras you've probably driven past without noticing. The numbers are staggering. More than one hundred twenty thousand cameras across forty-nine states. Over twenty billion vehicle scans every month. Hawley calls it an unprecedented national surveillance network and wants to know who has access to the data. Cities are pulling out. On Tuesday, the Pflugerville, Texas city council voted unanimously to end its Flock contract and shut down all twenty-eight cameras. Christians will land in different places here. Public safety is a real good. So is privacy. Proverbs twenty-five, verse two says it is the glory of God to conceal a matter, but the glory of kings to search things out. Even godly kings had limits. A government that can watch everyone, everywhere, all the time is not a category Scripture treats lightly. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard. Story three. A federal judge yesterday refused to force Texas to extradite an ICE officer to Minnesota, where he's charged with shooting a man in the leg through a front door and then lying about the encounter. The officer, Christian Castro, is in custody in Brownsville. Under Texas law, he must be released today. Minnesota's attorney general says Castro has been calling a woman in Mexico from jail, talking about marrying her and buying a house there. Governor Abbott has refused to sign the extradition warrant. Deuteronomy sixteen, verse twenty says it plainly. Justice, and only justice, you shall follow.
