200,000 Visas on the Table: Mercy Meets Order

Two hundred thousand visas. On the table. This is The Gospel Briefing. I'm Charles King. Here's what we know. The Trump administration is preparing to revoke business and tourism visas — the B-one and B-two categories — from up to two hundred thousand migrants who entered as short-term visitors and then applied for asylum. The Associated Press broke the story Monday. State is coordinating with Homeland Security. Revocations will roll out gradually. They will not trigger immediate deportation. Pending asylum cases move into immigration court. State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott told The Hill the target is foreigners who came claiming short-term visits, then filed to stay. Deputy Secretary Christopher Landau said the asylum system has been swamped by frivolous claims. If this proceeds, it would be the largest mass visa revocation in American history. Since President Trump returned to office, about one hundred seventy-five thousand visas have already been revoked. Here's the honest part. Christians disagree about immigration policy, and they can. Scripture does not hand us a visa framework. It hands us a posture. Leviticus 19, verse thirty-four. "The stranger who sojourns with you shall be to you as the native among you, and you shall love him as yourself." That command sat inside a nation with borders, laws, and courts. The Supreme Court on Monday allowed President Trump's executive order overhauling mail-in voting to take effect while legal challenges continue. It's procedural, not final. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson called it Kafkaesque. Blue states that sued were told they moved too early. Christians can hold strong views on ballot rules without hitching the kingdom of God to the outcome. Psalm 118, verse eight — better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. Read it before you read the next poll. Development three. The trade fight between the United States and Canada escalated hard over the weekend. President Trump announced fifty percent tariffs on Canadian cars, steel, and auto parts starting in January. Ontario Premier Doug Ford called the President a bully and a loser, and twice told him he could kiss a body part I will not name on this show. That is not normal diplomacy between allies. Prime Minister Mark Carney has suspended trade talks and promised dollar-for-dollar retaliation. Proverbs 15, verse one. A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. That verse doesn't pick a side in a tariff fight. It does describe what happens when leaders trade insults online. Pray for wisdom today before you repeat what you have heard.
